What this search does with your location
Choosing “Allow” lets your browser pass your latitude and longitude to this page, which sends them to our server with the radius you picked. The server finds the stations inside that circle, returns them, and forgets the coordinates: they aren’t saved to our database, linked to an account, or recorded in our web server’s access log. If you’d rather not share, type a Winnipeg postal code. We use its first three characters to pick a representative point in that part of the city. Codes we don’t recognise, including rural R0 codes, fall back to a search from Portage and Main.
How the results are ordered
The list is not a plain nearest-first list. Stations with a price reported in the last 12 hours come first, then those with an older report still inside our 36-hour window, then stations with no current price. Within each group the cheaper station comes first, and distance only breaks ties. Every card shows its distance, so you can still pick the closest. Distances are measured in a straight line, and in Winnipeg the rivers matter: a station across the Red or the Assiniboine can be close on the map and a long way round by road.
Choosing a radius in Winnipeg
The default 10 km is a sensible start from most neighbourhoods inside the Perimeter. It usually reaches at least one of the city’s competitive corridors: Pembina Highway in the south, McPhillips Street in the north, Regent Avenue in the east, Kenaston Boulevard and Portage Avenue West in the west. Try 5 km if you live near one of those strips and just want the options on it. Downtown has fewer stations than you might expect, so a search from the Exchange District or Osborne Village often turns up pumps on the arterials leading out of the core rather than inside it. Newer edge neighbourhoods such as Sage Creek, Bridgwater or the far end of Transcona may need 15 km. At 20 km and up, depending on where you start, the search reaches past the Perimeter to towns such as Headingley and Oakbank.
When a detour is worth it
- For a routine fill, the station on your route usually wins. Four cents a litre on a 50-litre tank is $2.00. A cross-city detour through rush-hour traffic on Abinojii Mikanah (formerly Bishop Grandin) or Lagimodière can use up that saving, and short trips on a cold engine in January burn more fuel per kilometre than the same trip in July.
- Before a highway trip, it pays to shop. If you’re heading east on the Trans-Canada toward the Whiteshell or Kenora, north to the Lake Winnipeg beaches, or south on Highway 75 to the border, compare prices before you leave the city. Stations get sparse once you’re past the edge of town, and highway and cottage-country pumps aren’t always competitive. Fill in town while you still have choices.
- Know what the low prices require. Costco gas bars often post some of the lowest prices in the city but need a membership. Red River Co-op pays equity to members, so a member’s real cost can be below the posted price. Mobil pumps at Superstore earn PC Optimum points, and Canadian Tire Gas+ earns CT Money. The prices here are posted prices; any membership or rewards value comes on top.
Once your results load, you can change the radius or hide stations above a maximum price. Prices are community reports collected hourly, and each card shows when its price was reported, so check the pump before you start fuelling.
